The fifth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft will be spending his first offseason doing rehab. Lions defensive end Ziggy Ansah underwent shoulder surgery in early February, according to FoxSports.com. Ansah will have to rehab the shoulder, but he's expected to be ready for the beginning for the 2014 season.

Ansah originally injured the shoulder in Week 14 against Philadelphia, but he fought through the pain and played in each of Detroit's final three games of the season. The BYU-product led all rookies in 2013 with eight sacks, that number also led the Lions defense.

The Lions first-round pick did miss two games during his rookie season, but that wasn't related to his shoulder. Ansah injured his ankle in Week 8 against the Cowboys and missed the Lions following two games against Chicago and Pittsburgh.

Ravens RB Ray Rice's domestic dispute gets uglier

We already knew Ray Rice and his fiancee, Janay Palmer, were arrested this past weekend in New Jersey after they "struck each other with their hands," but new video obtained by TMZ.com shows what looks to be the ugly end of the dispute. The video allegedly shows Rice lifting and dragging a clearly unconscious Palmer out of a hotel elevator. Rice struggles to move Palmer's body, specifically her legs, completely away from the elevator doors. A man approaches them after a few moments, at which time Palmer seems to gain consciousness.According to a court summons, Rice rendered Palmer unconscious by striking her with his hand. Rice and Palmer are expected to appear in court next week on simple assault-domestic violence charges.

This may still mean little or nothing for Rice's on-field status, but the league will do its due diligence and review the matter. The Ravens remain committed to Rice as a "big part" of their future.
