Melbourne Victory moved up to second in the A-League table after snatching a 2-1 win over Perth Glory on Saturday night.

Archie Thompson scored the winner in the 90th minute to earn the three points for the visitors.

Foot-of-the-table Perth had taken the lead through a 28th-minute own goal from Mark Milligan, who then restored parity from the penalty spot five minutes before the interval.

The win was Victory's fourth from their past five league games, but Glory are now winless in nine and appear destined to finish at the bottom of the standings.

The Central Coast Mariners defeated the Newcastle Jets 3-1 in a highly-entertaining match.

A goal inside the first minute to Eddy Bosnar, followed by Berni Ibini's fourth domestic goal of the season, gave the reigning champions the perfect start inside six minutes.

Joel Griffiths cut the margin after 23 minutes but substitute midfielder Glen Trifiro's late strike secured the triumph for the Mariners.

Saturday's other match between Western Sydney Wanderers and Adelaide United finished goalless.

Moratti rules out returning as Inter president

Massimo Moratti has ruled out reprising the role of Inter president, although he suggested his son may take over one day.

The 68-year-old stepped down from the position after selling his 70 per cent stake in the club to Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir in October.

Moratti is now listed as Inter’s honorary president, with son Angelomario Moratti serving as vice-president.

Oil tycoon Moratti worked as Inter president for 18 years, but has no desire to do so again.

“To return now as president would be crazy, but perhaps one day my son might do it, I do not rule that out,” he told Milan-based TV station Telelombardia.

“Taking on Inter to me was like running away with a blonde. Now I am glad to be in the club as a partner. It’s a matter of the heart and I have to thank Thohir.”

Inter won five Serie A titles, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup during Moratti’s time at the helm.

However, the club have struggled to replicate those glories in recent years, and sit fifth in Serie A ahead of Sunday’s visit of Atalanta.
