The Bears continued to shore up their pass rush on Thursday when they signed former Detroit Lions defensive end Willie Young to a three-year deal the team announced.

Young's deal is worth $9 million per Tom Pelissero of USA Today and features a $2 million signing bonus and $3.95 million in total guaranteed money.

The former N.C. State standout has six sacks in his career, including three last year as a starting pass rusher for the Lions.

He's a nice fit in Chicago, where he can do some damage as a 4-3 rush end.

Phil Emery already made one big move to bolster the Bears attack on quarterbacks, signing Lamarr Houston away from the Raiders on a big $35 million deal.

Of course, Chicago also lost Julius Peppers when they cut the veteran end because of his mammoth cap hit.

Peppers production wasn't huge last year, but those are still farily big of shoes to fill. Fortunately for the new Chicago duo, there's no where to go but up for the Bears defense in 2014.

Lions get their Starscream; ink former Seahawks WR Tate to 5-year deal



Wide receiver Golden Tate is taking his Super Bowl ring and his talents to the Motor City. According to ESPN.com's Michael Rothstein, the outspoken leader of the Seahawks 2013 receiving corps has agreed to a deal with the Detroit Lions worth $31 million over the next 5 years.Tate led the Seahawks in receiving last season with 64 catches, 898 yards, and 5 touchdowns. He is the second wide receiver the Lions have signed since the free agent signing period opened on Tuesday. Kevin Ogletree is the other.



Tate is someone worth keeping an eye on heading into the 2014 season. Personally, I like him to be a potential top 20-25 receiver. He's definitely not a #1 WR, which is the role he was thrown into last season in Seattle due to injuries to fellow wide receivers Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin. In the #2 role in Detroit, with Megatron getting extra attention most of the time, Tate should get several opportunities to get single coverage from their opponent's #2 DB. Tate is the kind of guy who can thrive in that situation. He has the lowest drop rate on catchable balls of all WR's in the league the past three years.Detroit fans will remember what Herman Moore and Brett Perriman did for a couple years in the mid-90's with Barry Sanders in the backfield. With a solid running game, as well as a gamer of a quarterback in Matthew Stafford, Johnson and Tate have the potential to channel that type of production. Consider Tate a sleeper with 90+ reception, 1,000+ yard, and 8-10 TD potential.
