Chargers WR Keenan Allen trying to get faster

Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen looked more than ready for the NFL as a rookie last year. Crisp routes, strong hands, great body control. He looked like a 10-year veteran. He also ran slower than some 10-year veterans. Allen posted a 4.65 40-yard dash time at his University of California pro day. Although he could blame that uninspiring time on the fact that he was still recovering from knee surgery, Allen said he still needs to get faster, and that's been one of his primary focuses of the offseason. Now that his knees are healthy, Allen feels like he has made strides toward that goal."I'm pretty sure I'm faster than 4.6," Allen said via Eric D. Williams of ESPN.com.

The Chargers haven't done much to upgrade their group of receivers. Malcom Floyd has been physically cleared to return, but predicting he will stay healthy is not a safe bet. Tight end Antonio Gates is another year older and slower. Vincent Brown was a bust last season. As such, Allen is going to get a full season of added defensive attention. Also, can Philip Rivers be as good as he was in 2013?I loved owning Allen last year, but I probably will be looking elsewhere when I need my WR2. I think Allen will struggle as the league's defenses adjust to him.
