Ten months ago, Giants safety Will Hill was suspended four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy for what he later admitted was marijuana use. The year before, during his rookie season, Hill was suspended four games for drug use (he later said it was because of Adderall).
Now, after failing a drug test for the third time, Hill has been suspended for the first six games of the 2014 season.
On Thursday, Hill -- who is eligible to return to the team's active roster on Oct. 13 -- practiced with the second team in what appeared to be a pre-suspension demotion.
"It is and it will be [a difficult situation]. There's no doubt about that part about it," coach Tom Coughlin said Thursday, via the Newark Star Ledger. "In the spring, we try to get as many reps for as many people as we can. Right now we're three-deep back [at safety], so it's fine."
After serving his suspension last season, Hill returned to the team and played awfully well, racking up 77 tackles and two interceptions in 12 games. In the Pro Football Focus rankings, Hill was the No. 2 safety in the league.
That, however, obviously won't matter for the first six games of 2014. And as for Hill's future with the team? It's reportedly not looking good.
Also, when news broke in April I reported Will Hill was "likely done" w/Giants after third suspension. I'm told that's still likely now.

Will Hill is a serious knucklehead, but he's a talented knucklehead. I can't see the Giants just cutting him loose entirely.
