Coach Sam Timbe was an elated man after the 2009 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Sofapaka registered their second successive win and clean sheet in the 1 – 0 win over KCB on Sunday.

John Baraza scored the only goal of the game and the Ugandan tactician, speaking afterwards, said his players did well in the wake of financial problems that the team has been going through.

With a game still remaining before the wrap up their first leg, Timbe said it was important that they prepare for it with a win to guarantee confidence as well as keeping with their season’s ambitions.

“We did well, the players put in a great fight despite everything they have been going through and I am happy for both the team and the players. The three points are vital for our season’s ambitions as we near the end of the first leg.

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- A pair of Patriot League Scholar-Athletes have been awarded NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships, the intercollegiate athletics organization announced last month.

Navy's Elizabeth Hoerner, a two-time Patriot League Scholar-Athlete Award winner in Women's Soccer, and American's Alexis Dobbs, a three-time Patriot League Scholar-Athlete recipient in Women's Basketball, were among 116 student-athlete recipients for the 2013-2014 season.

To be eligible for the one-time, non-renewable grant of $7,500 the student-athlete must have excelled athletically and academically and be in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. The program aims to reward those individuals whose dedication and effort are reflective of those characteristics necessary to succeed and thrive through postgraduate study in an accredited graduate degree program.

Hoerner, a two-year starter in goal for the Mids, was the 2013 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year after leading top-seeded Navy in to the Patriot League Championship game in her senior campaign. In the fall season, the Lititz, Pa., native ranked second among her 1,098 classmates in Military Order of Merit and 61st in Overall Order of Merit maintaining a 3.86 grade point average while majoring in oceanography.

In March, Dobbs joined Army's Erin Anthony (2011) as the only three-time winners of the Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. A four-year starter and three time captain, Dobbs finished her career with the Eagles in the top five in a number of program categories having recorded 412 assists (2nd all-time), 212 three-point field goals (2nd), and a 37.1 three-point field goal percentage (4th).
