Dion Waiters is getting his shots up. (USATSI) Dion Waiters is getting his shots up. (USATSI)

Dion Waiters has led the Cleveland Cavaliers in shot attempts in all five of their preseason games. The Cavaliers also employ LeBron James, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving. Their head coach, David Blatt, was asked about this. Here's his response, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Chris Haynes:

"I was thinking about that at halftime, actually," Blatt said. "Remember that we didn't play with a full roster tonight and our normal rotation was not what it will be. The way that Dallas played led to a lot of open perimeter shots, which Dion is going to take because that's what he does.

"I don't think he should lead the team in shots. On the other hand I don't really care. I just want us to take good shots and make them. But we'll look at it. It's something we really should look at it and we will."

You know, that's a fair point of view. Not controversial. I don't think anyone would disagree with Blatt, not even the extremely confident Waiters himself. He shot 4-for-15 on Friday against the Dallas Mavericks in a 108-102 loss, and he shot 4-for-14 two days earlier against the Indiana Pacers. James, meanwhile, hasn't attempted more than 12 field goals in a game yet.

Does this mean we should be freaking out about Waiters hijacking Blatt's offense? Nope, not yet. He's looked great at times during the preseason, and once the real games start a lot of things should change. Cleveland has played their stars limited minutes and has been experimenting with the rotation, which is very normal at this time of year. It might take time for Waiters to find his place, but James will surely help him with that.

Kobe Bryant gets loose for a dunk during Lakers practice (VIDEO)

During a 3-on-3 scrimmage portion of Lakers practice on Saturday, Kobe Bryant got to the rim and elevated nicely to throw down the one-handed slam.

In case this particular angle (or the audible reaction from what seemed like an unusually high amount of spectators) didn’t do it justice, here’s an eyewitness report from someone who saw it live.

There are only two questions with Bryant this season, and admittedly, they’re big ones. Can he stay healthy to play the bulk of his team’s games, and can he perform at a consistently high level while doing so?

The issue that’s perceived to exist by some (idiots) — whether or not he can still play at an All-Star level at all — has already been answered more than once. Bryant put up 27 points in 28 minutes in L.A.’s last exhibition game, and leads the Lakers in points, assists and steals to this point of the preseason.
