Brandon Marshall would have 'buyer's remorse' on Jay Cutler, too. (USATSI)
With the Bears officially eliminated from postseason contention at 5-8 and the offense struggling to put points on the board, it's understandable why they might have a case of "buyer's remorse" when it comes to Jay Cutler's contract.
It was reported on Sunday that Chicago regrets giving Cutler a seven-year, $126 million deal and, well, yeah, of course they do. That contract looks terrible. But that doesn't mean Brandon Marshall has to agree with the notion.
"That's tough, man," Marshall said on his WMVP-AM (1000) radio show Monday, via the Chicago Tribune. "What I would say is we all know Jay is more than capable of getting it done. It doesn't always fall on him. I guess that's why those guys are the highest paid players out there. Because when you win and everything is going good, they get all the glory. And when it's bad, they take more than what they should take.
"But I can understand that as far as as a business man, I would have buyer's remorse, too."
So, from a purely objective standpoint, Marshall is right. The Bears invested a ton of money in Cutler and the offense immediately regressed.
It's been average despite having a theoretical franchise quarterback and two huge receivers in Marshall and 2013 breakout Alshon Jeffery. Not to mention Martellus Bennett and Matt Forte.
Quite understandably, a "frustrating season."
"It is the most frustrating season," Marshall said. "Not only was I not really productive--like, I really couldn't get a flow, a rhythm in this offense this year--but, 2, I wasn't having fun. We still got three games left. So there can be a lot done in these last three games besides make the playoffs and make a run at it. But, you know, this year sucked, man. It really did. For me, it sucks to go out this way, but I'm ready to move forward and get ready for next year already. Usually I'm thinking about just taking a month or so off, but now I'm like, 'I'm ready to go right now.'"
But let's be clear: Marshall agreeing with the notion of buyer's remorse can't sit well with Cutler just from those words being thrown out in a vacuum. Even though he pointed out later it's "a group thing."
"I don't know," he said. "That's why I said it's not all Jay's fault. It's not all the coaches' fault. It's not all the offensive line or the wide receiver. It's a group thing," Marshall said. "But, you know, we have everything. We have a quarterback that's more than capable. We have some stud wide receivers, the best tight end in the league. We have a great offensive line. We have the best all-around back. We have great coaches. ... So, for me, I'm a little confused, too."
The Bears are done this season -- and Marshall is officially finished, being placed on IR Monday -- but they've got three games to show some life before Black Monday rolls around. You have to imagine there will be changes in Chicago this offseason.

Redskins WR DeSean Jackson not likely to play Week 14
Dianna Marie Russini, host of "Redskins Showtime," is reporting that Washington is planning to play without wide receiver DeSean Jackson in their Week 14 game with the St. Louis Rams. Jackson is dealing with a bruised fibula that has kept him out of practice all week.
The Rams, just like everyone else this season, manhandled the Raiders in Week 13 to the tune of a 52-0 shellacking. Despite the shutout, the Rams still allow the fifth-most fantasy points to wide receivers. With Jackson out, this should be a week in which WR Pierre Garcon can actually do something. Unfortunately for Garcon owners, it may be too late if you drafted him as your top receiver this season. Regardless, he and TE Jordan Reed should both see plenty of action and have productive fantasy games this week. I'd feel comfortable starting either of them.
