The Ravens simply couldn't let Eugene Monroe walk into free agency without bringing back a quality left tackle. Fortunately for them, they didn't.
CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports the Ravens locked down Monroe on a five-year, $37.5 million deal that features $19 million in guaranteed money.
Monroe was acquired by Baltimore midway through 2013 for a fourth- and fifth-round pick from the Jaguars.
He didn't instantly turn the Ravens into a better pass protection or running team really but he was still an improvement over the debacle that was them trying to bring back Bryant McKinnie.
Monroe is still just 26, though, and could potentially develop into the franchise left tackle the Jaguars thought they were drafting. (And maybe he could've been that in Jacksonville, but the new Jaguars regime didn't want to commit the money to the possibility.)
Whatever the case, Baltimore now has a left tackle in their pocket to protect Joe Flacco and clear holes for Ray Rice.
Going into 2014 without acquiring someone would've been a major, major issue.

A couple of wideouts re-up: Redskins' Santana Moss and Lions' Kevin Ogletree
So much news has happened and will continue to happen for the rest of the day, so it's time to consolidate some of the lesser-heralded signings. Here, we have a couple of reserve wideouts staying on with their respective teams for another season.Pro Football Talk was first to report that Santana Moss will remain with the Redskins, and that Kevin Ogletree has re-signed with the Lions. Moss, 34, caught 42 passes for 452 yards and two touchdowns last season. Ogletree put together a 21-269-2 line last season.
Moss will be no better than the Redskins' No. 4 receiver this season, especially with the news that Andre Roberts is his newest teammate. He's good for about one or two solid PPR outputs per season.Ogletree will always be remembered for opening the 2012 season with two touchdowns and more than 100 yards against the Giants. In fact, that'll probably be the only thing he's remembered for in the NFL. I probably remember it vividly only because I am a Giants fan. Anyway, If the Lions know what's good for them, they won't give Ogletree much playing time this season. Golden Tate would be a much, much, much better option. These two skill-position players have basically zero fantasy value, but they are recognizable names, so they deserve at least a write-up.
