More NFL offseason: Mock Drafts | Bucs cut Revis | Pro Days | Top free agents

Darrelle Revis wasn't a free agent for long. Just hours after being released by the Tampa Buccaneers on Wednesday, Revis already has a new team. The veteran cornerback has agreed to a one-year deal with the Patriots, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora has confirmed.

Revis' one-year deal with New England will pay him $12 million, according to ESPN.com.

Tampa Bay spent the week looking for a team that would take Revis in a trade, but when the Buccaneers unable to find any takers, they were forced to cut him on Wednesday. If Revis had still been on the roster after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the Buccaneers would have owed him a $1.5 million roster bonus. The Bucs would have also owed the Jets a 2014 third-round pick as part of the deal that sent Revis from New York to Tampa Bay in April 2013.

After Tampa Bay released Revis, the Jets were one of the teams in the mix. Revis' camp actually talked with the Jets on Wednesday night to 'discuss the possibility of a reunion,' but obviously, Revis had other plans. Losing out on Revis is one thing, losing out on Revis to the Patriots is probably one of Rex Ryan's worst nightmares.

The addition of Revis is huge for a Patriots defense that lost Aqib Talib on Tuesday. Talib signed a six-year, $57 million deal with the Broncos on the first day of free agency. After losing Talib, it did't look like the Patriots would be able to make an upgrade at corner, but they did by adding Revis.

Revis is the No. 1 rated corner in CBSSports.com's free agent rankings. Talib checked in three spots behind Revis at No. 4.

Despite coming off an ACL injury in 2012, Revis still had a solid year in 2013. As a matter of fact, he had the best year of any corner in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus. That's good news for the Patriots, who have the likes of Calvin Johnson, A.J. Green and Demaryius Thomas on their 2014 schedule.

At $12 million for next season, Revis will be taking a pay cut from the $16 million he could have possibly earned if the Bucs could have found a trading partner willing to pay his entire salary. As it is though, Revis will make $12 million playing for a contender knowing that he'll be in line to cash-in again next offseason.

Tampa Bay snaps up QB Josh McCown from Bears

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed QB Josh McCown to a two year, 10 million dollar deal. The team will likely give McCown a chance to compete for the starting job against Mike Glennon.

It's hard not to be happy for McCown. He has put in time on so many different teams before his breakout last year. While he may not have the success in Tampa that he did in Chicago last season, you get the feeling that he earned this contract and root for him to succeed. We knew Lovie Smith had interest in McCown, so this doesn't come as much of a surprise. While Lovie doesn't have the reputation with quarterbacks that Marc Trestman has, it was unlikely that the Bears could offer McCown the contract that Tampa could considering how much money they already had invested in the position. The 34 year old journeyman should get the opportunity to compete with second year QB Mike Glennon, and it's still possible that the Bucs draft a QB, although now it's less likely they'll do so in the first round. For now Jordan Palmer will back up Jay Cutler in Chicago, but they could also look for a young QB later in the draft.
