A lot happened in the NFL on Monday. We learned that the Buccaneers are going to dump Darrelle Revis unless they can find somewhere to trade him. We learned that Jared Allen could end up in Denver. And we also learned that the Browns are 'very serious' about bringing Donte Whitner home to Ohio.

Darrelle Revis done in Tampa Bay

CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported during the NFL combine that there was a 'good chance' the Buccaneers would deal Darrelle Revis by the start of the league year. Now there's more: if Revis isn't dealt by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the Buccaneers are going to cut him, according to ESPN.com.

So much for 'one of the most dramatic moves in franchise history.' Am I right Tampa Bay?

The Buccaneers acquired Revis in a trade with the Jets last April. After the trade, Revis agreed to a six-year, $96 million deal with the Bucs that had one catch: the contract didn't contain any guaranteed money.

The trade also included a conditional draft pick, which is why the Bucs have until Wednesday to figure out what to do with Revis. If Revis is still on the roster at 4 p.m. ET, the Jets get a third-round pick from Tampa and the Bucs owe Revis a $1.5 million bonus. However, if Revis is cut before then, the Jets only get a fourth-round pick and the Bucs are on the hook for zero dollars. So there is incentive to cut Revis if no one bites on a trade.

Can Revis still play? The answer to that seems to be a definite yes.

Despite coming off an ACL injury in 2012, Revis still had a solid year in his first season with the Bucs. If you don't believe me, just ask the guys at Pro Football Focus.

Hit the road jack

• Revis hasn't been cut yet, but there were players who were actually cut on Monday, like Chicago's Dante Rosario and Michael Bush. Bush spent two seasons with the Bears and was second on the team in rushing in both years. Cutting Bush will free up $1.85 million in cap space, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. As for Rosario, he's probably a little confused right now. The Bears re-signed him on Feb. 27, only to cut him 11 days later.
  
  
  


• The Rams announced that they've parted ways with guard Harvey Dahl. The veteran offensive lineman had been with St. Louis since 2010 and started a total of nine games for the Rams last season.

Rumors

• Is Vikings defensive end Jared Allen going to end up in Denver? It seems to be a possibility. A source told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that Allen-to-the-Broncos is likely and they'd be 'shocked' if it didn't happen. The report seems to line up with what Allen wants. Without mentioning a specific team, Allen had this to say this week, "If you can play for one of the top-five quarterbacks, that makes life easier." Peyton Manning probably qualifies.
  
  
  


• Speaking of free agent defensive ends, the Bears are targeting Oakland's Lamarr Houston, according to NFL.com. Chicago originally had its sights set on Seattle's Michael Bennett, but Bennett decided to re-sign with the Seahawks on Monday. Houston is currently No. 2 in CBSSports.com's free agent rankings of available defensive ends.
  
  
  


• San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh didn't end up in Cleveland, but 49ers safety Donte Whitner might. The Browns are 'very serious' about signing Whitner, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. If Whitner were to end up in Cleveland, it would be a homecoming of sorts. The 28-year-old attended high school and college in Ohio.
  
  
  


• After four seasons with the Chiefs, it looks like Dexter McCluster's days in Kansas City are over. According to the Kansas City Star, McCluster will not be returning to the team that selected him in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft. McCluster is expected to have several suitors and could sign with a new team as early as Tuesday night.

Cowboys QB Romo on track for OTA's - takes in Duke, Carolina game



In an interview after Saturday night's ACC hoops showdown between Duke and North Carolina at Cameron, Dallas quarterback Tony Romo said he's feeling good, his post-back surgery rehab is going well, and he's on schedule for the Cowboys' Organized Team Activities when they start next month."It's going good," Romo told ESPN during Saturday night's interview. "We're getting close now to (returning). Usually takes three months, it's just a normal kind of roundabout date that they give ya and we're right on schedule. Really ahead in a lot of ways. Just going to be ready to go here in about a month and rehab is going good, no setbacks of any kind. Mine (surgery) was just a normal small version of it, so I should be good to go here shortly." Romo missed the Cowboys last couple games of the season due to the injuryRomo and Head Coach Jason Garrett were in Durham this weekend to work with quarterback guru and Duke head football coach, David Cutcliffe. Cutcliffe is also known for working with Broncos QB Peyton Manning while he was rehabbing his neck injury two years ago. Romo and Garrett even took place in a quick game of PIG with ESPN analyst and former Duke great, Jayson WIlliams and current Duke guard Quinn Cook Friday night.



The words "back surgery" and "minor" don't typically go hand in hand, but as back surgeries go, Romo's was indeed not expected to be a huge setback. Good news for Cowboys' fans and for fantasy football players alike. A healthy Romo is necessary for WR Dez Bryant, TE Jason Witten, and any other offensive skill player that hits the field for Dallas in 2014. We all saw the Kyle Orton experiment, and I even tried to be optimistic about it. Orton is not nearly as solid as Romo. In my opinion, a healthy Romo with healthy weapons is a top 10 QB in 2014.
