Doc Rivers doesn't expect to reunite with Ray Allen. (USATSI) Doc Rivers doesn't expect to reunite with Ray Allen. (USATSI)

We still don't know whether Ray Allen will call it a career or return for a 19th season, but the Los Angeles Clippers were thought to be one of the teams the free agent sharpshooter might consider. He obviously has a relationship with Clippers president and head coach Doc Rivers from their time together in Boston, and Los Angeles would give him a chance to compete for a title. Rivers, though, said on Wednesday that Allen won't be joining the team:

Rivers added that Joe Ingles and Jared Cunningham, also guards, will be considered for the final roster spot, per the Los Angeles Times' Ben Bolch. The difference, presumably, is that both of them would be fine with being at the end of the bench. Given that the Clippers already have J.J. Redick and Jamal Crawford on the roster, the Clippers' signing of Chris Douglas-Roberts probably closed the door on Allen coming to LA.

Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin has made it very clear that Allen would be welcome to join former Miami Heat teammates LeBron James, Mike Miller and James Jones. Cleveland seems like the most likely landing spot for him if he does decide to play this season, though the Washington Wizards are also reportedly interested.

Injury updates: Lakers Ryan Kelly, Jazz’s Carrick Felix both out for a while

Training camps mean injuries, it can’t be avoided. General managers everywhere just say a little prayer and hope the injury bug decides to pass them over this year.

We have a couple early ones already (aside Andrei Kirilenko’s back keeping him out of a couple practices).

First, Lakers backup stretch four Ryan Kelly is now going to be out for a while, according to Lakers reporter Mike Trudell.

When you’re a young player on a team with a new coach and you’re trying to show why you deserve minutes, this is a real setback. Not sure how long he’ll be out, but hamstring injuries linger and can reoccur if you come back even a little too early.

There’s worse news for Utah guard Carrick Felix.

Felix missed a chunk of last season with a sports hernia and now gets a setback in training camp — and again a team with a new coach trying to figure out rotations. Felix has a lot of competition for minutes at the guard spot in Utah and this is not helping his cause.
