Nick Foles might have started his last game for the Eagles. (USATSI)
If Nick Foles doesn't return to play for the Eagles in 2014, there's a chance he'll never play for the team again. According to NJ.com, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has "soured" on Foles and doesn't see the quarterback in the team's long-term future.
"I think Howie is looking at quarterbacks," a source told NJ.com. "He's kind of soured on Foles, and I don't think he's alone. The organization isn't sold that he's the guy going forward."
Chip Kelly's offense seems to be perfect for Foles, but Foles doesn't seem to be perfect for Kelly's offense, at least not this year. Foles had thrown 10 interceptions through eight games before breaking his collarbone against the Texans on Sunday.
Although the Eagles are 6-2 with Foles this year, no one in the front office has been particularly impressed with the quarterback's 2014 season and the team had no plans to extend his contract beyond next season, when it's set to expire.
"Let's just say the way things were going, he wasn't going to get a contract extension, that's for sure," a source told NJ.com before Foles' injury.
Foles has one year left on a rookie deal that he signed in 2012 after the Eagles selected him in the third round of the NFL Draft. The decision to draft Foles was made by the Eagles previous coaching regime, so letting him walk after 2015 doesn't seem implausible.
Mark Sanchez could make the decision to let Foles go even easier if he plays well over the next few weeks. After Foles went down against the Texans, Sanchez went 15 of 22 for 202 yards and two touchdowns in Philadelphia's 31-21 win.
Kelly seems confident in moving forward with Sanchez.
"I thought he's done a great job in our system," Kelly said Monday. "I thought he played outstanding in the preseason and showed no rust or anything when he got in there against Houston yesterday. So we feel real confident and feel obviously very bad for Nick that he's out, but I feel very confident in Mark."
On the other hand, it looks like Kelly may have overestimated things last year when he said Foles would be the Eagles starting quarterback for the next 1,000 years.

Eagles TE Zach Ertz wants more targets, especially in red zone
Zach Ertz wants the same things that any NFL player wants: to score and to win. The Eagles are 5-2, so the winning hasn't been a huge problem. But scoring in the red zone has been a team-wide issue. The Eagles rank last in the NFL with a red-zone touchdown percentage of 34.8. Put another way, they have reached the end zone on just eight of their 23 trips inside the 20. Ertz says he can definitely help raise that rate."Yeah, I think that's something I do very well, get open in tight spaces, in the red zone in particular," Ertz said via CSN Philly's Geoff Mosher. "That's something I've done throughout my career, whether it's in college or the pros."Sometimes it really doesn't matter who they put on me, I think I can get open. I think I showed that against the Giants on the corner route. Hopefully, my number gets called more. But at the end of the day, all I really care about is winning."
It's a worthy complaint, but it may not lead to anything. As stated, the Eagles have been generally successful this season and currently boast the fourth-highest scoring average in the league. Really, the Eagles could see improved numbers in the red zone if they just got their offensive line healthy and were able to run the ball better. Don't expect Ertz's public plea to make much of a difference, but in the short term, he could benefit in his created role as the squeaky wheel. He is a borderline TE1 this weekend against Houston, which has allowed the seventh-fewest fantasy points to TEs.Ertz is second on the team in receiving yards (354) but is fourth in targets (39) and receptions (24). He has scored just once -- against the Giants on that corner route -- since Week 1.
