Bills WR Sammy Watkins (groin) exits Wednesday practice early;precautionary MRI planned
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Buffalo Bills super-rookie Sammy Watkins is scheduled to undergo an MRI after leaving Wednesday's practice early with a groin injury. Schefter reports that the MRI is precautionary only and that the Bills No. 1 receiver should be ready for the team's game with Kansas City in Week 10.Watkins has 38 catches for 590 yards and five touchdowns through the teams first eight games.
Prior to the team's Week 9 bye, Watkins was starting to look like the receiver we all knew he would. His 12 catches for 279 yards and three touchdowns in Weeks 7 and 8 were the reward that his fantasy owners had waited for all year. His season average of 15.9 fantasy points per game in PPR formats ranks him 15th at the wide receiver position. That's rare for rookie wideouts. Watkins is a rare talent, so it's fitting. We'll wait to hear the official diagnosis after the MRI, but Schefter is usually spot-on in his reports. So, it's likely Watkins will have a 'questionable' tag put on him Friday, but will suit up on Sunday. As long as he plays, expect Watkins to be in the WR2 ballpark against a pesky Kansas City Chiefs defense that ranks in the top 10 in wide receiver fantasy points against and allows the fewest passing yards per game of any team in the league.
