Charles Barkley said last Thursday on TNT's Inside The NBA that he would deprive himself of food until the Los Angeles Lakers tasted victory.

"I'm going on a fast," Barkley said. "I'm not going to eat again until the Lakers win a game."

Barkley later amended it, saying he wouldn't eat another meal until Los Angeles snapped its losing streak. When host Ernie Johnson called him out on that, he doubled down.

"I'm going to feel like I'm at Guantanamo Bay," Barkley said. "I am not going to eat until the Lakers win a game. I'm going to drink water."

Kenny Smith interjected: "And what else?"

"Vodka," Barkley replied. "Gotta have my carbs. My protein. Vodka's got potatoes in it."

Smith then wondered, "What if Kobe [Bryant] twists his ankle?"

"I could die!" Barkley said to much laughter.

Fear not, Barkley fans -- your beloved analyst is not in any danger, not anymore. The Lakers beat the Charlotte Hornets by a score of 107-92 on Sunday at the Staples Center. Barkley's hunger strike is officially over. Or, as Lakers big man Ed Davis put it:

Haaaaahahahaha.

Dion Waiters out for Cavaliers Monday with back injury

Dion Waiters has had a busy few days.

Off the court, he was mired in a convoluted controversy involving his Muslim faith, and whether or not it was the reason for him skipping the national anthem in Utah last week. The original report said it was, Waiters denied it by calling it “a damn lie,” and then the two sides evidently agreed that some sort of misunderstanding was to blame for the entire story.

On the court, Waiters was the victim of a flagrant foul administered by Denver’s Darrell Arthur on Friday, which resulted in the Nuggets’ big man receiving a one-game suspension.

The hit Waiters took from Arthur was strong enough to have caused a back injury that will Sideline Waiters for Monday night’s contest against the Pelicans.

From Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com:

Shooting guard Dion Waiters will not suit up when the Cavaliers host the New Orleans Pelicans Monday evening. …

The Cavaliers are officially calling it a lower back contusion. He was listed as questionable coming into tonight’s game.

Prior to the fall, he was dealing with a stiff back for weeks.

Waiters was moved to a reserve role after the Cavaliers’ 1-2 start, and had his best scoring performance of the season in Denver, finishing with 17 points in 24 minutes.
