Browns release RB Ben Tate

The Cleveland Browns have released running back Ben Tate according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. Tate was brought to Cleveland in the off-season to be their starting running back. The emergence of rookies Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West as viable NFL running backs made it a little easier for the team to not put up with his vocalizing of his frustration over his role.Tate had run for 333 yards on 106 carries, for an average just over 3.0 yards per attempt. The running back committee in Cleveland is now two-deep, with Crowell and West shouldering the load.

Good for the Browns. Tate seemed a little too sure of himself coming into the season and never really did anything to back it up, averaging just 3.2 yards per carry. His release clears up their backfield a little bit for fantasy owners and clears up cap space for the Browns owner, all while keeping two younger backs (Crowell-21, West-23) and letting the older one (Tate-26) walk.In limited action, Crowell has run for 358 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. West only averages 3.6 yards per carry. Crowell should be the lead back with West seeing his share of touches as well. I'd expect a 65-35 split.
