Report: Giants bring back Manningham

Mario Manningham is returning to New York, where he played from 2008-2011, after a two-year stint with the 49ers. The former Michigan wide receiver has agreed to terms with the Giants, and it's a one-year deal, according to PFT.com.

During his time with San Francisco, Manningham appeared in just 18 games, catching 51 passes for 534 yards and one touchdown. Originally a third-round pick, Manningham played in 50 games with the Giants, and caught 160 passes for 2,849 yards and 19 touchdowns. His best season came in 2010, when he had 60 receptions for 977 yards and nine scores.

But injuries slowed the 27-year-old in recent years; he suffered a torn ACL in 2012 and landed on injured reserve late last season.

“I'm happy to be back,” Manningham said, via the Giants web site. “I'm real excited. It's just great to see everybody, be around familiar faces, knowing everybody in the past and just being comfortable around everybody.



“Once a Giant, always a Giant," he continued. "That's how I feel. This is a very special place. I wanted to come back.”

Now Manningham will be reunited with Eli Manning and will join Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle as the Giants' top receivers after Hakeem Nicks left for the Colts during the first week of free agency.

WR James Jones ends up signing with Raiders



Wide receiver James Jones made it public over the weekend that he would like to sign with the Panthers. But hey, a job's a job, and Jones has decided that joining the Raiders is just fine, too. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Raiders and the former Packers wideout agreed to a three-year deal worth $11.3 million on Monday. It will be a homecoming of sorts for Jones, who attended high and college in San Jose, Calif.Jones is only a year removed from a 14-touchdown season. He scored just three times in 2013 but also set career-high with 817 yards.



The Raiders had a need at wideout with Denarius Moore and Rod Streater as their top WRs. Jones should be their new No. 1 right away. However, Oakland needs a quarterback even more so. Matt McGloin or Terrelle Pryor are not the answer, so expect Oakland to to end up with one of the Big 3 QBs with their No. 5 draft slot in May. While that could prove to be great for the future of the franchise, none of those quarterbacks are considered finished products, and they will need lots of time and teaching to reach their potential. As such, Jones is going to witness quite a difference between catching passes from Aaron Rodgers and whomever the Raiders send out under center in 2014. And if the Raiders' choice does blossom into a star, will it happen soon enough for Jones, who turns 30 in two weeks, to really benefit? This addition has "bust" written all over it.The Packers will easily move on with Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, and Jarrett Boykin as their top three wide receivers.
