More NFL offseason: League minicamp dates | Latest news, notes

On Sunday current and former Ravens players flocked to M&T Bank Stadium to play in Lardarius Webb's charity softball game.

One such former Raven? Ed Reed, who says he is "definitely preparing to play" in 2014, but just not any time real soon.

"Yes, definitely preparing to play," Reed said. "I'm not in any rush at all. I learned a lot about the process last year and I know my worth. I'm taking my time getting myself all the way back to where I want to be. I'll come back down to it somewhere in season. I'll probably wind up somewhere, or not."

In other words he's going to "Favre It Up" for a few months. Reed said there's definitely not any plan for him to be in "anybody's training camp."

"I'm not going to anybody's training camp," Reed said. "I sat and watched the league from a different perspective and learned a lot. I saw they had teams that needed safeties in the latter part of the year. Right now, I'm just about taking care of me. I'm getting myself back to where there's not questions on my part. I know you guys (the media) may question, but I'm not really worried about that. It's about how I feel."

And maybe that's not a bad idea. Reed signed with the Texans in the offseason last year (a pretty, pretty big mistake for both parties, the money Reed made aside) and probably wishes he could've picked his landing spot more carefully (the money aside), even though he was able to hook up with the Jets after Houston cut him.

Waiting and remaining patient means Reed isn't required to deal with all the offseason activities, can see how the early part of the year shakes out and then probably land with a contender in need of safety help while maximizing the number of games he can play.

And if no one wants him? Reed will just disappear.

"I know that I can still play," Reed said. "It's just a matter of the right fit. If not, you guys probably never see me again."
