WAKE FOREST, NC -- Even though his alleged actions took place before the NFL put the new domestic violence discipline policy in place, Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy will be subject to the new policy, Roger Goodell said Wednesday.

The commissioner was visiting Wake Forest High School to celebrate the district's implentation of the Heads Up safety program.

Additionally, Goodell said 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald would be subject to the new policy as well.

“They'll be evaluated under our new policy," Goodell said. "That's something we will obviously progress. It's very important, obviously, to make sure we have all the facts and to make sure law enforcement has the opportunity to do what they need to do.

"We have to make sure whatever action we should take at the appropriate time we're in position to do. We've had conversations with the union about that."

Greg Hardy was found guilty at a bench trial in North Carolina on communicating threats and assaulting a female.

He was given a 60-day suspended sentence and is appealing the sentence via jury trial.

UPDATE: Browns RB Ben Tate will 'likely' miss 2-4 weeks with knee sprain

Browns running back Ben Tate may miss 2-4 weeks with a knee sprain, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Tate aggravated the injury in Sunday's game versus the Steelers. In Tate's absence, Browns RB Terrance West took 16 carries for 100 yards, and RB Isaiah Crowell scored two red zone touchdowns.

That cleared up quickly. Tate's injury history was a well-known red flag going into this season and now has come back to bite his owners. West should be slotted in as a borderline RB2/flex play for this Sunday's matchup against the Saints. Meanwhile, Crowell, an interesting physical talent, is a reasonable waiver pickup but should only be started by fantasy owners who are desperate at the RB position. West will start and should take the bulk of the carries while Crowell sees goal-line and short-yardage work.
