Jets choose QB Michael Vick over Geno Smith for Week 9
Apparently, posting a quarterback rating equal to Blutarsky's GPA is a good way to lose your starting gig in the NFL. Well, at least for one week.Jets head coach Rex Ryan announced Monday that Michael Vick will start this Sunday's game in Kansas City, and Geno Smith will be his backup. However, Ryan said Smith could start again at some point this season. That, of course, will depend on how Vick performs. If Week 8's game was any sign, this won't be the last time Ryan will be asked whom his starting QB is.Vick fumbled the ball four times -- losing two -- threw an interception, completed only half of his 36 passes and was sacked four times in a little more than three quarters against the Bills. But the only reason why he was even on the field was Smith. With his eight passes, he connected more often with Buffalo defenders (three times) than with his teammates (twice). This led to an infamous rating of zero ... point ... zero.
Vick hasn't completed at least 60 percent of his attempts since his monster 2010 season. He takes a bunch of sacks, and you know that turnovers are a part of his game; he's committed 20 in his last 16 starts. But the legs are still there. Vick ran for a team-leading 69 yards against the Bills. That alone puts him on the QB2 streamer radar. The Chiefs play very solid, attacking defense at home, and they just recorded seven sacks of Austin Davis on Sunday. But if you're willing to take the good with the bad, Vick's running ability could help you out if you're in a pinch in Week 9.
