With 5:48 left in the fourth period of Monday night's star-studded match-up between the Los Angeles Clippers and the San Antonio Spurs, Chris Paul hit a seven-foot shot to put the Clippers up 82-75 in a low-scoring affair. Over the final 5:48 of the game, the Clippers wouldn't score again, except on three free throws from Jamal Crawford with 25 seconds left and the Clippers down five. They had a chance to still tie the game and try to get a defensive stop to push for overtime, but madness occurred on one of the final sequences.
Recap Spurs 89, Clippers 85
Chris Paul drove down the right side of the lane after running a pick-and-roll with Blake Griffin, and put up a layup attempt against Tim Duncan. The ball rolled off the rim with just under five seconds left on the clock. With about 2.5 seconds left, Griffin secured the loose ball after diving to the ground. The Spurs immediately swarmed him and covered all passing angles to prevent him kicking the ball out to a shooter. That's when CP3 called a timeout with 1.4 seconds left.
The problem with that is the Clippers didn't have any timeouts left to call, meaning the Clippers were hit with an excessive timeout technical foul. They relinquished possession of the ball, but Tony Parker missed the technical free throw. It left the Clippers with a tiny window of turning that mess into a bit of chicanery by their point guard. Unfortunately for Los Angeles, they couldn't steal the inbound pass and the Spurs eventually received two free throws from Kawhi Leonard for the 89-85 victory.
That angle from behind the backboard is how close Paul was to tying up the game.

Pistons misspell Andre Drummond’s name on back of his jersey (PHOTO)
Andre Drummond had a rough go of it in the Pistons’ 102-91 loss to the Bulls on Monday, finishing 0-of-5 from the field for just two points in 36 minutes of action before fouling out with nine seconds left.
It was even rougher when considering that his own team didn’t bother to get his name right on the back of his jersey.
These things happen in the NBA from time to time, and who knows if Drummond even noticed.
If he bounces back the very next game, he can simply act like that Drummund guy is no longer around.
