Bengals WR Marvin Jones out for the season due to ankle injury

The Bengals placed wide receiver Marvin Jones on injured reserve Tuesday, ending his season before he even played a down. The 24-year-old Jones had a bunch of bad injury luck this year that prevented him from playing in any game, exhibition or otherwise. He suffered an ankle injury prior to training camp which kept him out of action until early August. Then he broke his foot soon he was activated to join the team in camp practices. That injury required surgery, and just as he was ready to return for Cincinnati's Week 5 game at New England, Jones reportedly "tweaked" his ankle during the first practice of the week. That tweak will probably require surgery and turns out to be a major reason why Jones won't play in 2014. In a corresponding move, the Bengals signed former Browns wide receiver Greg Little.

As Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer points out, it's not like this is a huge loss. Cincy is currently in the top five in yards per game and yards per play. However, I and many people loved the ultra-athletic 6-foot-2 wideout coming into his third season. He caught 10 touchdowns and gained more than 700 yards despite playing less than 50 percent of the snaps in 2013. He looked like a tremendous complement to A.J. Green. That role now belongs to Mohamed Sanu, who has been doing just fine, thanks. Sanu scored in each of the past two games. In those contests, he registered a combined total of 15 catches on 23 targets for 190 yards. Little, a former second-round pick who has been unfortunately blessed with a pair of extremely unreliable hands, has no fantasy value.
