Raiders name Sparano interim ~ Acantha Sports

Tony Sparano, who had an uneven four-year run as the Miami Dolphins head coach, now will get another chance to impress. The Raiders announced via Twitter that they have named Sparano interim head coach.

According to ESPN's Jim Trotter, the Raiders will formally introduce Sparano as the team's interim head coach during a news conference Tuesday.

Sparano, who has held the title of Raiders assistant head coach while he works with Oakland's offensive line, will take over for Dennis Allen, who was fired by the Raiders late Monday after a tough 0-4 start for the team.

Sparano went 29-32 for the Dolphins from 2008-11 before he was fired late in the 2011 season. Since then, he had a disastrous 2012 season with the Jets as their offensive coordinator before landing in Oakland last year.

Aside from Sparano, offensive coordinator Greg Olson also reportedly was being considered for interim coach.

Dennis Allen out, Tony Sparano in as Raiders interim head coach

Dennis Allen has been fired after the Oakland Raiders have started the 2014 season 0-4, including their most recent loss in a 38-14 blowout by the Miami Dolphins. Assistant head coach/offensive line coach Tony Sparano has been named the interim head coach going forward.

This could have major fantasy implications if Sparano has full control over offensive play-calling. With his time as head coach with the Dolphins, Sparano was able to produce two fantasy-relevant RBs in Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown, including Williams finishing sixth among running backs in points in 2009. Just as recently as 2012, Sparano was able to make Shonn Greene relevant, getting him to rush for more than 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns. Fantasy arrows are pointing up for Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden.
