A 'real chance' Colts WR Reggie Wayne retires after 2014 season
A report by Indianapolis's RTV Channel 6 is indicating that Colts receiver Reggie Wayne may be seriously considering retirement at the end of this season. The number one reason? Family. Wayne has three young sons and missing what they're doing apparently is starting to take its toll on the 36 year-old veteran.Wayne stated, "36, man. Kids growing up. It's time for family decisions. They're 11, five and three. They're doing stuff now. I've got an 11 year-old that's all over the place, doing things, playing football. It sucks when you hear he's playing defensive end and he got a sack/fumble to win a game and you ain't there."Wayne currently ranks second all-time on the Colts in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Marvin Harrison is atop all three lists.
Wayne is probably the second-most beloved Colt in the Indianapolis era, behind Peyton Manning. It's rare that a player manages to play their entire career in one place, but he's done just that. As the story by RTV 6 states, Wayne has always been driven by accomplishments-Super Bowls, touchdowns, yards, and catches. The fact that he is currently only 42 receptions and 378 yards shy of catching Harrison for the club record in those two categories and with Andrew Luck as his quarterback, those numbers would likely be surpassed early in the 2015 season. The bottom line is that time missed with family is something that NFL players can't get back and that fantasy players largely take for granted. If that's the driving force in his decision, nobody can blame him for retiring just shy of those marks. It's a tough choice for sure, but regardless of whether he retires or returns, the fact will always remain-Wayne is one of the best receivers (real or fantasy) to ever lace up a pair of cleats.
