The final number is in and the 2014 NFL salary cap is set at $133 million, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports.

The NFL sent out a memo to the 32 clubs as to how much money they'd have to spend in the coming league year on Friday afternoon and it's a significant bump.

$133 million represents a massive jump and is good news for players out on the free-agent market as well as teams who were worried about having cash to spend.

Last year at this time the NFL set the salary cap at $123 million, which seemed like a pretty big bump from the projected $121.6 million at the time.

This is a massive bump for everyone involved and nearly a $10 million hike per team from what was originally expected, as well as the total from last year.

Teams that were cash-strapped heading into the beginning of the league year suddenly have a much bigger cushion to work with.

CBSSports.com NFL writer Jason La Canfora has the numbers for the franchise and transition tags at each position.

Giants' offensive coordinator says pass protection is 'first and foremost' for RBs

If and when Giants running back David Wilson is able to return healthy from neck surgery, he'll have to get back to improving in his biggest area of weakness.Fumbling? No, his other big area of weakness.Following his blocks? No, his other big area of weakness.Pass protection? Yeah, that's the ticket."First and foremost, the runner needs to be able to protect the quarterback," offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo told the Newark Star-Ledger. "... Obviously, it's ideal to have a guy that is functional out of the backfield catching the football, but at the end of the day, if they can't protect the quarterback, they're going to have a hard time getting on the field."

Wilson's flaws in pass pro have been very evident through his first two seasons. The Giants did everything they could last summer to bring Wilson up to speed, and the reports from coaches were positive. However, the Giants showed in 2013 that they still don't trust Wilson to be on the field for passing downs and hurry-up situations. And again, he faces a long road back following spinal fusion surgery. The Giants really need to see if they can re-sign Andre Brown at a bargain price. They don't have any other dependable running backs to speak of.
