Aaron Hernandez needs plenty of lawyers, but will he be able to afford them? (Twitter/@WesleyLowery)
Things are not looking up for Aaron Hernandez. The former Patriots tight end's been held in prison for a lengthy amount of time now and recently pled not guilty to double murder charges.
Now he's apparently dealing with a lack of funds to pay his attorneys. Fox Sports reported Friday that Hernandez' lawyers, Charles Rankin and James Sultan, filed documents indicating they might discontinue their representation of Hernandez.
The lawyers indicated their involvement with the latest Hernandez case was “limited to arraignment only and related proceedings.”
Perhaps the biggest obstacle for Hernandez? What the newest charges represent for him in terms of holding onto money received from the Patriots.
The Pats could seek to obtain additional cap space as well as money from Hernandez; whether or not they're able to get it is another story, but Hernandez is clearly dealing with mounting legal bills.
“The defendant is in the process of seeking to make financial arrangements to retain counsel," the lawyers added.
Back in September, Hernandez pled not guilty to the shooting of Odin Lloyd. He pled not guilty last week to two charges of first-degree stemming from a 2012 shooting.

Giants RB David Wilson taking part in OTAs
We still don't have confirmation that Giants running back David Wilson will be able to play this season, and that may not come for a couple of months. But he is taking part in OTAs this week. The source link below contains a video of Wilson taking a handoff from quarterback Josh Freeman, so he's obviously not working with the first-team offense; that job belongs to running back Rashad Jennings.Wilson is working his way back after undergoing spinal fusion surgery to correct a herniated disc in January.
Everyone is hoping that Wilson will be cleared for contact before training camp, and so we wait. If he gains clearance, he will make up half of an intriguing two-man backfield with Jennings. I know probably all of you are jaded with Wilson, but I still believe in his physical talent. I'll probably be suckered into using a mid-round pick on him, and unlike with other oft-injured players, that's a bed I'm prepared to lie in.
