Former NFL safety Darren Sharper and two accomplices were indicted on rape charges in New Orleans, according to multiple news outlets.

Sharper could face a life sentence in prison after a grand jury indicted him on two counts of aggravated rape and one count of simple rape stemming from multiple incidents.

Erik Nunez was charged with two counts of aggravated rape and one count of obstruction of justice. Brandon Licciardi was charged with one count of aggravated rape, three counts of human trafficking for the purposes of providing sexual conduct and one count of battery with a dangerous weapon.

Sharper was previously indicted on two counts of sexual assault and three counts of administering dangerous drugs in Arizona in March.

The former Packers/Vikings/Saints safety was initially arrested in Los Angeles in January and charged with two counts of rape. He has been accused of raping at least nine different women in five different states.

All three men face a life sentence in prison without parole if convicted.

Sharper has been jailed since February after turning himself in when New Orleans arrest warrants were issued.

Chargers RB Ryan Mathews misses Wednesday practice with ankle injury, status unknown

Chargers RB Ryan Mathews missed practice Wednesday with an ankle injury he sustained in Week 14. His status is currently unknown for Sunday's game against Denver. If Mathews is ruled out, Donald Brown will likely get the start at running back, with Branden Oliver backing him up.

Against the Broncos' tough run defense and likely to be playing from behind, there isn't a San Diego running back that's worth trusting unless you're in a real bind this week. If you are planning to use Matthews, be sure you have a backup plan in place before Sunday.
